Global Retail Toolkits Project Retail Design Retail Identity Retail Strategy Store Design

Alta is a dominant force in the Georgian electronics market, but to maintain its leadership in an increasingly digital world, the brand needed to evolve its physical presence. We were tasked with redefining their retail identity to move beyond a traditional big-box electronics store and create a modern, premium, and lifestyle-oriented environment.

The primary objective was to give customers a compelling reason to visit in person by transforming the shopping trip into an experience of discovery. This new identity has been successfully rolled out across major locations, including Saburtalo Mall, Gldani Mall, and East Point in Tbilisi, as well as sites in Kutaisi.

The central creative idea was to position Alta as the home of innovation, moving away from a purely technical aesthetic toward a welcoming modern retail destination, to do this we took cues from domestic interiors and the vernacular of an aspirational loft-style design. By blending high-contrast industrial materials, such as metallic treatments and mesh ceiling rafts, with softening tactile and domestic elements like oak veneers and concrete-effect flooring, we created a space that feels both cutting-edge and inviting. Though technology driven, the comfortable aesthetic helps bridge the gap between complex tech and everyday home life, making innovation feel accessible rather than intimidating.

Our strategy was built on the insight that electronics shopping can often lead to choice fatigue due to the high density of technical products and specifications. To combat this, we shifted the focus from merely selling products to empowering customer decisions through a sophisticated material palette, flowing easy to navigate layout and a robust retail toolkit of ownable fixture. We developed a comprehensive set of guidelines covering everything from wall-bay fixtures to custom mid-floor units, ensuring a consistent brand voice and identity across all store formats. A key part of the strategy was ensuring bilingual accessibility, with all navigation and messaging designed to be seamlessly integrated in both Georgian and English to serve a diverse market of both locals and tourists.

The store layout was redesigned to function as a guided journey of exploration, moving through four distinct zones. It begins with high-impact window fixtures that signal Alta’s commitment to innovation, immediately upon arrival. From there, shoppers enter an orientation zone where architectural rafts and high-level signage help them locate key category departments like mobile or home appliances from any point in the store. As they move into product exploration, we introduced category hero bays, breaks in the standard shelving that allow for lifestyle propping, to help customers imagine the technology in their own homes. The journey concludes at the expert hub, a dedicated service and finance area defined by the signature brand purple, providing a comfortable space for technical support and finalising purchases.

The impact of the new retail identity was immediate and commercially successful providing a fresh and elevated retail identity, setting Alta apart from their competitors. By the spring of the launch year, three major stores were already completed, including the flagship Saburtalo Mall location.

The success of the initial design and the effectiveness of the retail toolkit led to a deepened partnership, with Alta awarding us further locations to design and roll out. By providing a scalable, modern, and customer-centric framework, we have helped Alta solidify its position as the premier destination for digital and household appliances in Georgia.
