Creating an adidas destination for sportswear enthusiasts

Situated in the centre of Helsinki, the famous Finnish department store Stockmann is now home to a refreshed shop-in-shop design for revered brand adidas. The strategic focus on the refresh was to create a destination space, a considered environment for those athleisure and sports hunters in search of adidas wear.

Working as a dedicated partner, and retail design agency for the adidas Nordic team, we were briefed to provide full design intent for a duel gender sports performance and adidas originals space.

The new adidas Stockmann shop-in-shop is surrounded by an eye-catching running track, the warm colour of which contrasts with the grey concrete flooring, evocative of outdoor track running. Within the space, the adidas homecourt fixturing complete with dark hues of slatted wood perfectly classes against the cold grey cladding of the adidas originals concept. The varied colour and material palette is pleasing to the eye, creating an impactful space within a pivotal Finnish department store.

Acting as project guardians, D4R communicated closely with adidas installation partner agencies and retailer contractors to ensure a smooth process from design to reveal. The new 110 sqm adidas space at Stockmann, Helsinki, opened in early February and provided the first-ever mixed Homecourt and Neighbourhood space in the Nordics.

Delving into these dualities is not merely about style; it’s decoding the unspoken conversation of fractured communities, seeking pathways for bridge building through forms that reflect our division.
