This May not only kicked off the start of what appears to be a great English summer, but it also welcomed a 15th birthday for D4R. Unbelievably, we have been operating for 15 years and we couldn’t let that type of milestone pass without a celebration.
Before we delve into the fun, hilarious and somewhat embarrassing account of how we celebrated our birthday, we’ll highlight a little backstory in D4R.
Beginning with just directors Tim, Chris and Jon – Design4Retail was certainly a lot smaller fifteen years ago. Taking their years of experience in the industry, they set out to create an agency with friendship at the heart of it. With the addition of a few key members of the team in the early stages, projects were undertaken with some great brands. As we stand at over 55 employees today, we’ve definitely grown as a company! But it’s nice to know that we still work with some of those great brands from the first few years, as well as the many we’ve picked up along the way.
Now, for the celebrations. 15 years, over 50 employees, hundreds of excellent projects – we had to plan the birthday of all birthdays.
We began with a D4R Sports Day at Hothorpe Hall in Leicestershire, transforming the beautiful gardens into areas for welly wanging, archery, three-legged racing (or six-legged if you were one of the brave teams), tug of war and plenty of others. Divided into teams, you can see that everyone made the greatest effort to dress up, forgetting that we had a photographer booked and there would forever be proof of leotards, short shorts and cheerleading costumes…
Post-games, we had some time to chill out (drinks tokens out) and then start to get ready for a party. Prosecco out, partners and suppliers on their way to celebrate with us and a band getting people on the dancefloor, it was the perfect way to end a day of turning 15.
This day of celebrations was not just for us, it was also in aide of our charity of the year Wishes4Kids. A raffle in the weeks leading up to the event began the first stages of raising money, with plenty of people getting involved and some great prizes donated by brands and individuals. Not only that, we held an auction on the night for the big-ticket items, interrupting the band for a little while to play auctioneers. Every penny went to Wishes4Kids and we’re so pleased to have raised money for such a worthwhile charity.
It truly was the perfect celebration for our creative agency. Here’s to another 15 years!
