It’s an impressive idea; the proposals for new shops and homes in Harlow, Essex are being publicly exhibited prior to planning applications being submitted.
The regeneration project at Clifton Hatch in Harlow will provide shopping facilities and 26 new homes. The exciting prospect, we at Design 4 Retail think, is that the consultation will ensure that the development is not only supported by the local community, but the design of the retail environment will be informed by the feedback outcomes from the exhibition.

The urban development just north-east of London will replace existing outmoded shops with new, bespoke designed retail units, that will support the local economy. Harlow council see the exhibition as providing an opportunity for residents to have a hand in improving the area, and the retail design of the shop units will play a strong role in attracting customers to regenerate Clifton Hatch.
It’s a wise move, and one that would do well to be adopted by other commercial property developers. The local population are inevitably affected by the arrival of new businesses, and shrewdly scooping out the public’s retail requirements will only assist in ensuring that business will be sustainable in the area.
The outcomes of the feedback and its incorporation in to the design of the project will be viewable in a secondary public exhibition during October 09.
The exhibition of design proposals for new shops and homes at Clifton Hatch, Harlow, will be held at the Royal British Legion Club in Latton Common Road on 14 September from 3pm to 7pm.

Primark has quickly become the royalty of European throw-away fashion on the high street over the past 5 years.

And now it seems that this penny-pinching pound store has had a high class foray into the German market with its new flagship store on the Waterfront in Bremen.
One of the largest stores in the new shopping complex in Bremen, the single floor has not limited the retailer from fully making use of its height and length after installation of some impressive in-store displays.
Earmarked as the latest in Primark’s “concept stores”, the interior is proof of this bold claim. Intended to be clean and smart, the shop fittings have been designed to live up to the very German notion of efficiency.
A vast atrium allows all departments of the store to be visually accessible on entry, the plenitude of space enhanced by an abundance of mirrors and clever accents of floral wallpaper in contrast to the minimalist décor throughout the rest of the store.

We’ve just been looking at some of this years exhibitors at the Flow Gallery.
It’s well worth looking at. Some of the creative artwork they’ve produced from old bits of paper is amazing.
Just goes to show, for something to be pleasing to the eye doesn’t have to cost the earth, it just needs a bit of creative, “out of the paper box” thinking.
At Design 4 Retail, this is the philosophy we practice when we’re coming up with designs for our clients – it’s not about a rush job, it’s about thinking differently and looking at the options available, examining the endless possibilities. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a window display, a new point of sale product or a re-branding of a shop, there’s always something new and exciting we can do with the design. All it takes is a bit of though.
On a recent visit to the ancient and beautiful city of Rome, whilst rambling along the central shopping areas off Via Del Corso, I stumbled over a small but stunning boutique with a spectacular shop window. (Read more)
