Apple retail stores use clever window display.Friday, 09 July 2010

As retail customers have become increasingly savvy about marketing and the techniques marketers use to sell to them, the once simple window display has had to up its game to keep pace with the public appetite for sophisticated and entertaining selling techniques. A few tired mannequins with badly skewed wigs and improbable bosoms are just not going to cut it anymore.

Shop windows, properly done, can be a feast for the eye, but obviously there are always going to be limitations to your creativity right? Recreating the forests of Borneo, replete with wildlife in a shop window in Stockport in winter is going to pose problems. Unless you want a visit from the RSPCA about the improper use of spider monkeys and tips from Alan Titchmarsh on your Ficus, you’re going to have to think laterally, and that’s where window clings come in.

Window clings are simple, effective and versatile. They can be printed with practically any image or colour, and shaped to fit any window. Although they are easy to apply and use, the range of effects you can create with them is limited only by your imagination and budget.

Apple recently used a cleverly designed cling to simulate a cracked window in one of their store fronts, provoking a huge response from passing shoppers. Smashing!
