Packaging is in the news more and more these days as looking after the environment and being green is in the forefront of everyone’s mind.

Environmentalists are campaigning about the amount of packaging used on many products that once had no packaging at all and supermarkets have encouraged customers to use reusable shopping bags.

As companies try to look at ways around making their packaging more environmentally friendly they turn to recyclable and biodegradable materials as a way to promote their brand.

As of next month, Lay’s crisps are set to be packaged in eco-friendly bags. The bags will be compostable so the idea is that you eat the crisps and then place the packet in your composter. This way the company gets to brand their products with a lot less of an impact on the environment.

The new compostable bags are made of sugars derived from corn and is the first crisp bag in the world to be completely compostible.

After about 14 weeks the bag will have turned to compost in a municipal style compost, or a little longer in your back garden.

Lay’s are part of the Pepsico brand along with Walkers, so the environmental packaging may be coming to England in the near future. Watch this space!

This is one technology that I would love to be able to use for myself. It’s definitely a cut above the rest and I can’t wait until my provider has it. Your insight was what I needed. Thanks
