RETAIL DESIGN AGENCY DESIGN 4 RETAIL

Good design for the masses.Monday, 03 August 2009

There seems to be one good thing to come out of the recession, and that’s the fact that retailers are getting smart with their designs.

We’ve already talked in previous blogs about how they’re doing their best to ensure their internal shop designs are more modern and up-to-date and the fact that they’re rotating their point of sales displays to give the illusion of constant change.  But now, smart retailers are coming around to the idea of cracking designs at more affordable prices.

So retailers are slowing cracking shop design, now they want to also provide  a range of products that promise classic designs, are built to last, and available at affordable prices.

It’s something Sir Terence Conran endorses too.  In an interview with the Telegraph newspaper he’s been talking about making good design available to everyone.  Putting his money where his mouth is, he’s come up with a new range,  Well Considered,  a new collection of home essentials.

He says in the interview: “ Well-designed things are often made in relatively small quantities and this pushes up prices. But intelligent design should enable products to be available to everyone, whatever their income.”

We agree Sir Terence.  It doesn’t matter what walk of life you come from, good design should be available to everyone, whether it’s home furnishing or counter or window displays.
